PEARL: THE JANIS JOPLIN STORY (Rockumentary)
3 APRIL 2020 | FRIDAY | 8.00PM
“With his signature raw vocals and percussive acoustic guitar, Owen Campbell feels his music all the way down to his gonads. From the Land of Oz, he brings us a sound born and bred in American Southern Country Blues.”
- Blues Blast Magazine, Illinois USA
Originally hailing from Canberra, Owen Campbell began playing guitar at the age of 9, guided by a diverse range of influences and a strong musical family. By the age of 17 he was performing in clubs and pubs, busking on street corners and cutting his teeth performing wherever he could.
The Owen Campbell Trio plays real, old school Blues. It’s the sort of music that, if you’re very lucky, you hear on the AM dial when you’re driving home late at night as the ionosphere goes crazy and tiny little stations from the middle of nowhere come through the dial like spirits of the dead.
Owen has cemented himself as one of Australia’s premier Blues/Rock exports. He’s performed all over the world from the USA, Ireland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, to France, Spain, Holland, Japan, Hong Kong and India. He’s even played at the highest altitude Blues Festival in the world - The Himalayan Blues Festival in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Owen’s smouldering guitar work runs from Bluesy riffs to soulful finger-picking to lap steel guitar solos using a shot glass slide. His parents introduced Owen to an awesome collection of music from a young age - Dylan, Van Morrison, The Band, The Rolling Stones. “I always loved the variety and diversity to their sounds”, says Campbell. “My own sound has bits of Soul, Roots, Country and Rock. I love the variation.”
A Finalist in Series 6 of Australia’s Got Talent, Owen has performed at major festivals including Blues on Broadbeach, Thredbo Blues Festival and the Sydney Blues Festival. He’s released four studio albums and every album has hit the Top 10 on the iTunes Blues Charts in over 10 countries.
Along with an unflinching ability to sing it sweet and play it dirty, Owen Campbell creates a perfect blend of melody that’s simple but right, as is the way with the Blues. He combines a moving, gutsy, old time sound that marries authenticity with incredible energy.
The Owen Campbell Trio comprises:
Owen Campbell - Various Guitars & Lead Vocal
Matt Nightingale - Bass
Kayne Butler - Drums
Don’t miss this international touring star when he plays Eastern Lounge.

“Jesse Redwing is one of the most soulful and authentic Blues players in Australia today... bar none!”
- Speaker TV
“Jesse's original songs walk a sweet line between paying homage to the old-school sounds of the classic Bluesmen of yesteryear, while still maintaining a youthful exuberance.”
- The Planet of Sound
Groovy Blues shredder Jesse Redwing has played extensively in a myriad of venues across Australia in recent years and also completed two U.S. tours. He has supported such acts as The Teskey Brothers, Cedric Burnside, Cold Chisel and Nic Cester (Jet). A track off Jesse’s debut album ‘Crawlin’ Up the Walls’ was even featured on hit Netflix show ‘Shooter’.
Originally from Sydney’s northern beaches but now a long-time resident of the inner city, Jesse's honest, down-to-earth playing translates well whether he plays solo or with his smokin' hot band, which he describes as “… a no BS, all good times rockin' Blues band”. EL regulars may even recognise venue favourite and Aussie legend, Harry Brus on bass.
Jesse and his accompanying troupe bring us a Blues-driven groovefest that wouldn’t sound out of place on a street corner in New Orleans. With a deep, haunting nature to his vocals, Jesse combines with driving bass lines and jammed out guitar to take us on what sounds like a whiskey-soaked, nicotine-stained trip all the way back to the ‘60s.
Jesse Redwing is guaranteed to fill your cup with his contemporary take on the timeless soulful sounds of the Blues legends.
