VALENTINE'S DAY SPECTACULAR
THE FIRST LADIES OF SOUL + MISS ELM
14 FEBRUARY 2020 | FRIDAY | 8.00PM
“Three of Australia’s best female vocalists in one band! Strong, confident, sassy, sexy and in control of everything.”
- Yaron Hallis, Camelot Lounge
On Friday 14 February 2020, come and celebrate VALENTINE’S DAY the best way possible. We’re opening the New Year with the return of THE FIRST LADIES OF SOUL who last played Eastern Lounge on Valentine’s Day, way back in 2015!
In the spirit of the hit movie 'The Sapphires', this 2 hour musical revue celebrates the music of the true First Ladies of Soul, showcasing the hits of Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Diana Ross, Etta James, Randy Crawford, Roberta Flack, Natalie Cole, Freda Payne, Chaka Khan, The Emotions and Tina Turner.
The show bursts at the seams with well-known favourites like ‘Say a Little Prayer’, 'Love Child’, ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’, ‘Chain of Fools’ and many, many more. It’s full of divine harmonies and brilliant musicianship, courtesy of a supreme 9-piece band (incl. horn section). You’ll move, groove and sing along to all the classic Soul songs across several decades.
Let me introduce you to OUR First Ladies of Soul…
“It’s not often you get the whole package in one artist, but Jo comes gift wrapped. A wonderful musician, songwriter and lyricist, she also has a charismatic, natural stage presence. Jo is so professional and possessed of a captivating and versatile voice that demands to be listened to.”
- Jim Shipstone, Former M.D. BMG Music
Jo has shared stages with Rick Price, Glenn Shorrock, Tina Arena, Mark Williams, Margaret Urlich and Julie Anthony. Twice a winner at the MusicOz Awards for original composition, she’s given electric live performances at The Manly International Jazz Festival, The Darling Harbour Jazz and Blues Festival, The Norfolk Island Jazz Festival, The New Zealand International Jazz and Blues Festival and the Java Jazz Festival held in Jakarta, Indonesia alongside Chaka Khan, Jamie Cullum and Level 42. She has also graced other international stages including Claridges Hotel in London (with Dame Edna Everage!), London’s legendary live music venue The Bedford and New York’s famous Arlene’s Grocery.
"Amanda Easton’s voice is delightful - dulcet, crisp and entrancing. It's unique - she doesn’t really sound like anyone I can think of. Her voice is simply beguiling."
We last saw Amanda at Eastern Lounge fronting the Monterey Pop Festival tribute. She’s also released three of her own albums, an EP and a bunch of singles (so far). She’s achieved several Top Ten spots in the Australian independent music charts and toured her music throughout Western Europe and Japan. Her rich vocals have seen her twice perform at the ARIA Awards and she's appeared on stage with Australian music legends including Glenn Shorrock, Powderfinger, Marcia Hines, James Reyne, Vanessa Amarosi , Richard Clapton and Wendy Matthews. Malcolm Carter of Pennyblack Music in Sweden says: "Amanda Easton takes you intio that smoky club, complete with red velvet seats... she's up on that stage and you're hanging on every word she sings."
“Liza is a sensational Soul singer and songwriter with a huge range and a powerful voice that can howl, growl or soothe a furrowed brow.”
- Georgina Reed 99.3FM
Liza has worked with some of Australia’s very best artists such as Richard Clapton, Ian Moss, Tony Neville (Neville Brothers), Regina Valesquez, Ray Beadle, Kevin Bennett and Jon Stevens. She’s won 3 Australian Blues CHAIN Awards, including those for Best Female Vocalist, Best New Talent and Best Producer, in conjunction with her husband Greg. She’s released three superb albums and is recognised as one of Australia’s top Female Blues and Jazz artists. As Brian Lizotte says: "Liza is simply a class act!"
We are privileged to have all three of these amazing vocalists appearing together in one red hot band! Don’t miss our 1st show for 2020. It’s going to be the very best way to kick off the New Year at Eastern Lounge and celebrate Valentine’s Day.

“On her new single The Castle, Miss Elm crafts a spellbinding, genre-bending slice of Folk-Pop brilliance. She crafts truly immersive and endearing gems of sound.”
Born to a plane-crash-surviving jazz musician and a drama-teaching actress, Erin Harrington was always destined to create something special and music is where her creativity has blossomed. A fiery red-headed songstress, Erin performs as her alter-ego, the quirky ‘Miss Elm’, enchanting and entertaining audiences with theatrical melodies entwined around life-journeys and the lessons we face.
A 3-octave soprano range singer, Miss Elm tells honest stories via her original ‘Alternative Chill Acoustic’ music. You could liken her to what a mix of Regina Spektor and Sarah Blasko would sound like... playing ukuleles!
Miss Elm’s genre really defies definition. She calls herself a ‘Soul Rocker’, but there’s a little Jazz and Folk in the mix too… and she’s also happy with the description: ‘Modern Pop with Gypsy influences’. Whatever you call it, Erin’s songs will sweep you up and take you for a ride.
Dine downstairs before the show or order at the Bistro and have your delicious meal served to your table in the upstairs room!
If eating pre-show, please arrive no later than 6:30pm to order and have your dinner in the Brasserie downstairs.
